YoungPlanet Postage Tutorial

For Listers

When listing an item, you need to specify whether you are offering to post it, or whether you wish it to be collected or both.

If someone has requested that you post an item out to them, do note that the receiver is expected to cover postage costs and you should not be expected to mail items out before you've received payment. We recommend payment being made via bank transfer or PayPal. If paying through PayPal, make sure to let the other user know to select 'personal' as the transaction type, otherwise you will incur PayPal buyer protection fees and receive less than the amount that was sent.

Royal Mail Second Class Small Parcel will accommodate most items on the platform (up to 2kg with the following maximum dimensions: length 45cm, width 35cm, depth 16cm). This will cost approximately £3.50. If in doubt, go to a post office or visit https://www.royalmail.com/sending. Other than Royal Mail, other potential postal services include myHermes and Shiply (for bulkier items).

When packing items for postage, you can reuse old materials - boxes or Poly Mailer bags from previous online purchases for example. Remember to remove any personal information before reusing these materials! If you would like to do everything online and have access to a printer, you can order and print a mailing label from Royal Mail and arrange for parcel collection from your doorstep.

For Requesters

When requesting an item to be posted, please be polite and note that you are expected to pay all relevant postage and packaging costs in advance. This typically costs £3.50 or so, but could be lower or higher depending on the size and weight of the item.

Listers usually request payment via bank transfer or PayPal - do pay promptly and let the lister know once this has been done so that they can proceed with dispatching the item. Please also be patient - depending on the distance, items might take a while to arrive. If you've not received your item after a reasonable period of time, do either follow up with the lister or reach out to the YoungPlanet team!
